The focus of the Norwich Union shine:awards at Level 1 is on giving children from three to eight years the opportunity to 'play and learn'.

Level 1 has been divided into two distinct sections: Every activity within section 1 is for all children within this age band. It is sufficient that the child has tried and completed these activities to achieve a reward. For every 5 activities completed the child can receive a sticker, which can be collected on a record of achievement card.

Each set of 5 activities should include one activity from each of the Running, Jumping, Throwing, Combinations and any one other event that provides a score.

The activities contained within Section 2 are for children aged 6, 7 and 8 years of age. These activities have performance targets. 5 activity results can be used to achieve a Mini Athlete Award.

A Healthy Athlete Award can be achieved by having tried and completed all of the Fitness and Fun activities.
