Level 3 - Getting Better

The focus of the Level 3 Awards are on helping young people to improve and 'get better' at athletics. They have been designed to cater for 11 to 15-year-olds.

At this Level, the emphasis is still on fun and enjoyment as well as on gradually refining and adapting skills towards specific event techniques. All of the activities at Level 3 have performance targets for the athlete to achieve.

Level 3 awards include awards for specific event groups, a Pentathlon Award, a Decathlon Award and a Fit Athlete Award.

To encourage the development of skills within specific event areas, participants can achieve Speed, Endurance, Jumps and Throws Awards by completing three events against the performance targets from the respective event section.

A Pentathlon Award can be achieved by completing five activities against the performance targets. The five activities must be from at least three of the activity sections - running for speed, running for endurance, jumping, throwing and one further event from these sections.

A Decathlon Award can be achieved by completing 10 activities against the performance targets. No more that 3 activities from a single section can be considered for this award.

A Fit Athlete Award can be achieved by completing all of the fitness and conditioning activities at this Level against the performance targets.
